Mission Services

The Mission of Goodwill Industries of the Coastal Empire, Inc. is to assist people with disabilities and other barriers to employment to live independently and become employed.

At Goodwill Industries of the Coastal Empire we provide a variety of services to the community to help people become productive contributors. Our Workforce Development Department provides a variety of services to our clients.  Currently we offer vocational evaluation, work readiness training and a variety of specialized programs all aimed at putting people to work. We also maintain several Job Connection Centers where our staff works directly with the community and available resources to help match jobs to job seekers.

ADVANCE Acquired Brain Injury

This is a day program that serves individuals who have experienced a brain injury.  Participants are provided with assessment, cognitive remediation, literacy instruction and independent living instruction. Once they have progressed participants are assisted with entering work activity through various services.

General Services

Vocational Assessment – provides psychometric testing and situational assessment to assist an individual with a disability or other barrier to employment to identify their strengths, abilities, needs and preferences.  Services include Comprehensive Vocational Evaluation with a :

•Transferrable Skills Analysis

•Comprehensive Vocational Profile

•Limited Evaluation

•Work Evaluation

Work Adjustment - assists participants seeking employment to develop or reestablish work habits and behaviors, quality and quantity of work, determine functional capacities, develop proper work habits, and interpersonal skills along with effective communication skills and increased stamina. Two types of Work Adjustment are provided: Facility Based here at Goodwill and Community Based with Goodwill’s business partners in the community.

Job Readiness – provides the participant with the skills necessary to prepare a cover letter and resume, complete applications, conduct an effective job search, and develop interview skills.

Job Coaching – provides the participant with training in an actual job with a one-to-one Job Coach.

Personal & Social Adjustment – provides the participant with intensive counseling to remediate interpersonal difficulties and behaviors which hinder success on the job.

Employment Skills Training – provides training in a number of occupational fields including clerical, janitorial, and fork lift.

Job Placement Assistance – enables the job seeker to secure employment in the competitive labor market.

Operation Open Doors

Offers “New Beginnings…New Hope” to homeless Veterans through reintegration into employment and the community.  Veterans are assisted in securing housing, health care and their Veterans’ Benefits while receiving training and employment services.

Job Connections

Our Community Career Centers in Brunswick and Lyons provide job readiness classes and job search assistance.  In addition, the public can access workshops in financial literacy, health and wellness, take ESL and GED classes, or have income taxes prepared through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program.

Buena Vida

This is an initiative of the four Goodwill agencies in Georgia.  Through Buena Vida we will expand Job Connections activities toToombsCounty.  The Community Career Center will place emphasis on reaching out to the Hispanic/Latino community providing adult education classes in Spanish along with English as a Second Language (ESL).
